Show estimate and actual
Junk removal is quoted from a range and billed from what was actually loaded. When those differ — which is often — the invoice needs to show both:
Estimated: quarter to half load (4–8 cu yd), $X–$Y Final volume: three-quarter load (approx. 12 cu yd), agreed on site before loading — $Z
That is the difference between a customer who understands the number and one who believes they were quoted low deliberately.
Itemise the surcharges

Every one of these costs you extra at the transfer station. Shown individually they are obviously pass-through; buried in the volume price they look invented.
Charge the carry where it applied
Third-floor walk-up, long garden carry, basement stairs with a tight turn. These are labour lines with a stated reason, and customers accept them readily when the reason is on the document.
Invoice at the truck
The load is on and the garage is empty. That is peak willingness to pay, and it declines every hour afterwards. Take a card before you leave.
Photograph before and after

Questions operators actually ask
What should a junk removal invoice include?
The volume actually removed as a truckload fraction and cubic yardage, surcharge items listed individually, labour for stairs or long carries, disposal, and the total. If the final volume differed from the estimate, show both and note when it was agreed.
What if the load was bigger than estimated?
Show the estimate and the final volume, and reference the moment you agreed it on site. Junk removal volume is assessed at the truck, and an invoice that jumps above the estimate without explanation is the most common dispute in this trade.
Should surcharges be itemised?
Always. Tyres, mattresses, refrigerant appliances, televisions and construction debris all carry extra disposal fees. Listed individually they read as pass-through costs; hidden in a larger volume price they read as padding.
When should I invoice?
On the spot, before you drive away, with a card taken. The truck is loaded and the space is clear — that is the moment the customer is most willing to pay, and every hour after it makes collection harder.
Do I need to prove what was removed?
